DHEC Public Health Laboratory Celebrates Medical Laboratory Professional Week

It’s Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, an annual celebration of medical laboratory professionals and pathologists who play a vital role in health care and patient advocacy.

This year the theme is “It’s Alright, Cuz You’re Saved by the Lab.”

Our Public Health Laboratory is an essential part of public health and consists of more than 100 laboratory professionals, both laboratorians and support staff. On a typical day, these professionals receive and process specimens sent to the laboratory, providing rapid and accurate results to medical service providers throughout the state.

Number of specialized testing Laboratories, they include: Analytical Chemistry, Clinical Microbiology, Diagnostic Serology, Food Microbiology, Molecular, Mycobacteriology, Newborn Screening, Special Pathogens and Virology.

If you are considering doing some yardwork or gardening for Earth Day, our Environmental Affairs team encourages you to use South Carolina native plants. Many nurseries carry native plants, so please ask what is available at your favorite shopping location.
